What it is
Sometimes a tooth is too damaged or decayed to save. A cracked tooth below the gum, severe decay that’s gone too far, a wisdom tooth causing trouble — in these cases, taking the tooth out is the right call.
It sounds dramatic. It usually isn’t.
What to expect
We numb the area first. The anaesthetic takes a few minutes to work — we wait. Once you’re numb, you’ll feel pressure and movement. Not pain.
Simple extractions take 10–20 minutes. We loosen the tooth, remove it, and you’re done. A surgical extraction (for a tooth broken at the gum line, or an impacted wisdom tooth) takes longer and involves a small incision.
You’ll leave with gauze on the site and clear instructions for the next few days.
Does it hurt?
During the procedure: no, if the anaesthetic has worked. We’ll ask. If you feel pain, tell us — we’ll add more local anaesthetic before continuing.
After: yes, it will be sore for a day or two. Ibuprofen or the medication we prescribe will handle it. By day three, most people are eating normally on the other side.
How long it takes
One visit. Usually 30–45 minutes total, including the waiting time for the anaesthetic.
Cost
Starting from ₹1,000 — see full pricing.
A routine extraction is on the lower end. An impacted wisdom tooth or a surgically complicated removal costs more. We’ll assess and give you a clear number before we do anything.
When you need this
- Severe decay — the tooth can’t be saved with a filling or root canal
- A cracked tooth that’s split below the gum
- A wisdom tooth that’s impacted or causing crowding
- A tooth that’s causing an infection that isn’t responding to treatment
- Baby teeth that haven’t fallen out and are blocking adult teeth
If you’re unsure whether extraction is the right option, ask us. Sometimes a root canal can save a tooth that looks hopeless. We’ll tell you honestly which way makes more sense.
After the visit
- Bite down on the gauze for 30–45 minutes
- Don’t rinse forcefully for 24 hours — the blood clot needs to form
- Eat soft food on the other side for a couple of days
- No smoking for at least 24 hours (it delays healing)
- Avoid hot drinks the same day
Call us if: bleeding doesn’t stop after an hour of pressure, you develop fever, or you get severe pain after day three (which can signal dry socket).
What comes next
A missing tooth, if left unfilled, will cause neighbouring teeth to shift over time. Once healed, we can talk about options — a bridge, a denture, or an implant.
