What it is

A routine clean and check. We remove plaque and soft deposits that brushing misses, look for cavities forming, check your gums, and tell you what we find.

This is the visit that prevents bigger visits later.

What to expect

We start by looking — teeth, gums, soft tissue. Then we clean using a gentle ultrasonic scaler and hand instruments to remove buildup from around the gum line and between teeth. Then we polish.

If we spot anything worrying — a cavity starting, a crack, gum inflammation — we tell you immediately and discuss what to do next. Most of the time, especially if you come regularly, there isn’t much to do.

Does it hurt?

For most people: no. You’ll feel the instruments, you might feel mild sensitivity during the polish. That’s it.

If your gums haven’t been cleaned in a while they may bleed a little — that’s the gum inflammation responding to disturbance, not us hurting you. It settles down quickly with regular visits.

If you’re particularly sensitive, tell us and we’ll adjust.

How long it takes

One sitting. 30–45 minutes from walking in to walking out.

How often should you come

Twice a year is the standard recommendation. Once a year if your teeth and gums are consistently healthy.

Some people — smokers, people with a history of gum disease, people with braces — benefit from coming every three to four months.

If you haven’t been in a while, don’t let that stop you. We’re not here to lecture. Just come in.

When to book

  • It’s been six months or more since your last clean
  • Your gums bleed when you brush
  • You have a bad taste or smell in your mouth that doesn’t go away
  • You’d like to know if anything needs attention before it gets worse

After the visit

Teeth may feel slightly sensitive for a few hours after the polish — this is normal and fades.

We’ll let you know if anything needs a follow-up visit: a filling for a forming cavity, scaling for gum disease, or anything else. You won’t be surprised by the bill.
